Mornington horse racing preview
Eight races are set down for decision on Tuesday afternoon for Melbourne’s first race meeting of the week. With near-perfect conditions forecasted, the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in the true position throughout, all runners should have a fair chance if they’re good enough on the day. The first field at Mornington is set to face the starter at 1:30pm AEDT.
We’re happy to be chips in on Zesty Belle in the opening event of the Mornington card on Tuesday. The Ellerton & Zahra filly ran within a half length of Listed winner Parlophone in her juvenile campaign, and she draws to no work in transit throughout from barrier two. We don’t like calling any galloper a certainty, but we will be very surprised if she gets beaten here. She’ll sit off the leaders’ heels, wait for a run to come at the top of the straight and put her rivals away quickly.

From one three-year-old filly to another, this time we’re on Soul Obsession from the Anthony Freedman stable. She was competitive in the Listed Queen Adelaide Stakes back in May and chased home some good horses throughout her two-year-old campaign. Apprentice jockey Laura Lafferty will be looking to bring up her second career win, having cracked her maiden at this very track, and she maps to get an easy time of it up in front in the penultimate event.
