Mornington racing preview
An eight-race card is set down for judgement at Mornington this Thursday afternoon. The track is a Soft 5 at the time of writing, but the forecast suggests we could be experiencing very heavy conditions by the time the first race jumps at 1:30pm AEDT. The rail is out 5m the entire circuit after being out 2m when we last raced here on September 27.
David Brideoake and Jye McNeil team up with this lightly raced 3YO filly and will be looking to get her back on track after a luckless run last time out at Ballarat. Her debut win at Sale shows that she has plenty of ability, and she gets in nicely at the weights here with 56kg. McNeil will settle her up on pace from barrier 10, and she may prove hard to hold out if fortune favours her this time.

Jerome Hunter’s 4YO gelding looks well placed in the penultimate race on the card, and he rates quite highly with Matthew Cartwright on board. His win two starts back at Mornington had a fair bit of arrogance about it when travelling three deep the trip with no cover. The rain-affected track will not worry connections, as the galloper has had all three career starts on soft going and is yet to miss the placings.

This 4YO mare may have drawn the outside barrier, but it shouldn’t be an issue given the early pace she showed on debut two starts back. She looked to have gotten too far back last start at Cranbourne and was never in the run. Prior to that, she was well beaten on debut by the impressive Hindaam, who was not beaten far in the Jim Moloney Stakes. If Pony Gram can run up to what she showed on her bow, then she will be right in the finish here.
