HorseBetting’s Victorian racing analyst has run his eye over the eight-race meeting at Mornington set to be run on Monday afternoon and has come up with his best bets, free quaddie numbers and top odds from Australia’s leading online bookmakers. The track is rated a Heavy 8, with the rail out 8m the entire circuit, for the meeting commencing at 1:30pm AEDT.
Mornington Best Bet – Arriva Diva
Our best bet of the day comes up in the second leg of the quaddie when the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Arriva Diva steps out over 1500m. Having raced up on speed at Echuca on October 1, the six-year-old Curlin mare managed to keep a solid gallop going on the Heavy 9 to go on and salute by 1.25 lengths. She is yet to miss the top three in three runs on wet ground, suggesting she appreciate getting her toe into the ground and she should not find any qualms with the Heavy 8 on Monday. Josh Richards who claims 1.5kg will look to roll forward and dictate terms and in a race where they could get a quiet time of it out in front, Arriva Diva should prove too good for this BM64 field.
Next Best Bet at Mornington – From Pantherland
Ken & Kasey Keys will be hoping From Pantherland can break his maiden tag here at start five, following a narrow defeat at Sale on October 6. Having settled a distant second off a tearaway leader, the three-year-old son of Ready For Victory was left vulnerable late inside the final furlong and was ultimately found wanting. He stuck on gamely for second that day and all things considering, this race looks to be a touch easier than that Sale maiden. From barrier four, third up from a spell we expect Benny Allen to roll forward and take a sit outside the leader. He showed in the run at Sale that he can handle the wet track on a Soft 6 and if he can bring the same form that saw him compete in a Group 3 in his initial campaign, he should be too good here.
Best Value Bet at Mornington – Slickback Teddy
The Matt Cumani-trained Slickback Teddy broke through in impressive fashion at Geelong on September 29 when settling close to last and finishing right over the top of his rivals. He looks to be a genuine stayer in the making and if he can handle the Heavy going, we expect to see him fight out the finish. Dean Yendall sticks on board which is a massive bonus and despite wanting to get back upon settling he shouldn’t be too far from the speed in a 10-horse field. He showed at Geelong he can sustain a long run and if he can handle the going, he should prove too hard to hold out.
