Mornington Racecourse hosts an eight-race card on Tuesday afternoon on a track rated a Soft 5 with the rail out 8m for the entire circuit. HorseBetting.com.au brings you the best bets, top odds and free quaddie numbers for the meeting, which gets underway at 1pm AEST.
Best Bet: Fortune Follows
The Patrick Caboche-trained Fortune Follows was seemingly a good thing beaten at Kyneton on May 3, and on the quick eight-day backup, he looks hard to go past in the penultimate race at Mornington. The son of Akeed Mofeed was trapped three wide without cover at Kyneton and was outbobbed on the winning post to go down by the barest of margins. Apprentice Josh Richards hops on the back of Fortune Follows for the first time, and with his 3kg claim, we expect the pair to go forward and be too hard to catch over the 1200m at Mornington.
Race 7 – Fortune Follows (#4)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1368950_07]
Next Best: Prince Of Mercia
Price Of Mercia for trainer Clayton Douglas was racing in consistent form last campaign, finishing second in all three of his runs during the summer months. The Magnus gelding was sent around as a favourite in all three runs, but on Tuesday we expect him to reward the punters’ faith and finally break through for a win. Jamie Kah has ridden him in all four of his career starts and sticks on board on Tuesday, and from barrier nine we expect the pair to settle outside the leader. When asked the question, Prince Of Mercia should be too good for this maiden field.
Race 3 – Prince Of Mercia (#4)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1368950_03]
Best Value: Kamo
The Kane Harris-trained Kamo has put together a strong piece of form over his past three runs, finishing in the top two on all three occasions with a dominant win at Warracknabeal in the middle. The Written Tycoon gelding tends to settle towards the second half of the field and attempts to sustain a long run into the race. On the back of a genuine tempo we expect Jamie Mott to have him fighting out the finish in the opening leg of the quaddie.
Race 5 – Kamo (#6)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1368950_05]
