It is R.M Ansett Classic day at Mornington where we wrap up an outstanding Group 1 weekend of racing. The Listed Ansett Classic is the feature on an eight race card on a track that was forecast as a Soft 6 but has been downgraded to a Heavy 9 this morning.
The rail is out two metres after being in the true position when we last raced here on the 10th of September.
The first race is set to jump at 1:25pm, with the R.M Ansett Classic set to jump at 4:15pm.

This five year old gelding for the Busuttin and Young team absolutely relishes the sting out of the ground and looks to have a slight class edge on this field. He maps to take up the running and with the rain that has been forecast it can only help his chances. With gun hoop Mark Zahra on board hopefully he can give a nice kick at the top of the straight and take some catching.

Since coming down from Sydney the Godolphin four year old mare has put in two gutsy on pace performances when she was runner up at Sale and then followed it up at Bendigo with another runner up performance when weakening over the last 50 metres. Damien Oliver hops on and rates them better than anyone when on a leader and will prove incredibly hard to catch in the opener on Mornington’s Ansett Classic Day.

We will be looking to bookend the card at Mornington when siding with the Mick Price four year old gelding in Shotmaker who looks the best way to round out the weekend on the punt. He was able to get the job done at Bendigo last Wednesday when given no favours throughout travelling four wide no cover the entire trip. From barrier seven Mark Zahra should be able to get him up on the pace quite nicely and will take a power of beating if given a nice time of it out in front.

Michelle Payne trains and rides this six year old gelding and she looked to have gotten the recipe right last campaign with this galloper. He won four races from eight starts last campaign, culminating with an easy win at Warrnambool over 3100 metres. He is a genuine stayer and will race up on speed and relishes the wet tracks.
