Friday night under the lights is the theme for the card at Moonee Valley on Friday night where the Group 2 Australia Stakes is the feature event on the eight race card. Clear skies are forecast for the meeting on Friday night, and with the track rated a Good 4 and the rail in the true position we’re set for a cracking night of racing.
The first at The Valley is set to jump at 6:30pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Race 3 Elderflower (#1)
Coming off a dominant all the way victory at Caulfield on January 13th, we’re sticking with the Lindsey Smith trained Elderflower over the 955m sprint. With speed drawn underneath him, Campbell Rawiller may need to use up a little bit of petrol early on to get to the front and if he is afforded a touch of luck he’ll prove hard to catch. Rawiller’s 3kg claim will only help the fact that they’ll make this a genuinely run affair, and as long as he doesn’t get trapped wide without cover he is the one to beat in the 55 second challenge on Friday night.

Next Best: Race 1 Playoffs (#1)
The Maher and Eustace stable will be hoping they can build off the last start second Playoffs produced at Flemington on New Year’s Day and go one better at The Valley on Friday night. He is yet to run worse than third in his past four starts which includes a strong win at Pakenham three starts back. Having drawn the car park here in the opening event at The Valley, Will Price will look to use his 2kg claim to his advantage and take Playoffs to the front. He doesn’t necessarily produce a rapid turn of foot, but he will stay all day and should prove hard to run down.

Best Value: Race 7 Licciardi (#7)
Licciardi was far from disgraced at her last start at Caulfield on January 2nd when finding a couple of handy ones a touch better than her late on in the piece. She drops in weight here at The Valley and gets back to 1200m, where at her only run over the trip won by nearly four lengths at Mornington on January 15. With the blinkers going on for the first time, she looks the best value play on the card and could add some big value in the Moonee Valley quaddie.
