Moonee Valley Cox Plate Day 2020 Horse Betting Preview
“The best two minutes in sport” is how many describe the Cox Plate, and who is to blame them? Saturday marks the 100th running of the time-honoured Cox Plate, and is the feature event on a blockbuster 10 race card.
In what looks to be one of the most open Cox Plate fields in recent history, most eyes will be on the Danny O’Brien trained Russian Camelot to see if the young superstar can turn the tables on Arcadia Queen after the Queen of WA was a soft winner in the Caulfield Stakes a fortnight ago.
There has been plenty of talk in the lead up to Cox Plate day in regards to the weather, and with up to 25mm expected on race day and the same on Friday night, so it may pay to be thinking about wet track records.

He’s the Derby favourite for good reason, and the extra 200 metres on Saturday will only benefit him for his last run leading into the Derby next Saturday.

It may seem strange to not elect Ancestry as the best on the card considering the gelding’s two victories this campaign, but with plenty of rain forecast punters may come for Jungle Edge. Meaning, that our pick here could drift out to a better price than the $1.55 offer. He is 3 wins from 5 starts on rain affected ground, and two of those wins have come on Heavy tracks. A fortnight ago at Cranbourne he gave nothing else a chance when leading all the way to score by an eased down margin of 3 lengths in the Apache Cat Classic. If he brings that form to The Valley, he will prove very hard to run down.

Archie Alexander and Damian Lane team up in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup, and they would have been pleased with the way this stallion closed off in the Herbert Power Stakes a fortnight ago. He didn’t seem to be a genuine winning chance, but he was reducing the margin of defeat dramatically the entire home straight when chasing home Chapada. With Trap For Fools and Hush Writer engaged here, he will get a genuine tempo which suits him and look for him late to get his first win since April last year.
