Moonee Valley night racing tips

What Moonee Valley Races
Where Moonee Valley Racecourse – 1 McPherson St, Moonee Ponds, VIC, 3039
When Friday, November 3, 2023
First Race 5:45pm AEDT

The Moonee Valley Racing Club will be the destination for Victorian metro racing this Friday night, with an eight-part card set down for decision. No rain is forecast for Thursday or Friday, so we expect to be racing on a perfect Good 4 surface for the whole program. The rail will be pushed out to the +4m position for the entire circuit, with the opening event set to jump at 5:45pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Moonee Valley: Cadmus

Ex-European Cadmus was very good last start at Sale, where he got his head down to nab Schweinsteiger over 1740m when first-up for his second preparation in Australia. It appeared Beau Mertens had nowhere to go when they rounded the home turn, but the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained galloper found a gap and burst through to let down with a race-winning turn of foot. The step up to 2040m on Friday looks ideal, going off his form from Europe, and we expect him to win again.

Best Bet

Next Best at Moonee Valley: Scuderia

Scuderia was a dominant winner in a Benchmark 64 Handicap at this track and trip on October 6, leading from barrier to post in an easy 2.75-length victory. This daughter of Squamosa had won just once before that, but the sustained speed and ease of her last-start victory suggest there is more to come. The Thomas Carberry-trained sprinter will need to go to another level again as she steps up to Benchmark 70 grade, but if she can jump well and find the front, Scuderia should be able to bring up back-to-back victories at The Valley.

Next Bext

Race 6 – Silks#11 Scuderia (6)

4yo Mare | T: Thomas Carberry | J: Declan Bates (56.5kg)

Best Value at Moonee Valley: Ledeckey’s Dream

The Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman-trained Ledeckey’s Dream beat all bar a smart one at Sale last time out, where she was claimed in the final stride by Red Dates over 1210m on October 11. Now that this four-year-old mare has two runs under her belt, she should be at peak fitness on Friday night and ready to show her best. Luke Nolen will push forward from barrier nine, and if he can up the ante before the home turn, Ledeckey’s Dream will prove hard to run down.

Best Value

Race 4 – Silks#5 Ledeckey’s Dream (9)

4yo Mare | T: Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman | J: Luke Nolen (54kg)
