Saturday racing tips for The Valley

For the first time since August, a Group 1 will not be run in Victoria on a Saturday when a nine-race card takes place at Moonee Valley. Punters still have the Listed McKenzie Stakes for three-year-old colts and geldings to look forward to, along with the Listed Carlyon Stakes for the older horses. With the rail back in the true position, the track has come up a Good 4 and could improve to a Good 3 early in the meeting. The first race at The Valley will jump at 12:55pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 5 – Deep Speed (#4) $3 with Sportsbet

It’s hard to ignore the start of this three-year-old gelding’s career. He has two wins from three starts and last time out ran into a couple of handy ones on Stakes Day at Flemington. He maps to get an easy time of it up in front from barrier five, and with Luke Currie retaining the ride, they’ll look to replicate the performance he put in here over the track and distance two starts back. If he does that, he will be extremely hard to run down.

Next BestRace 4 – Re Edit (#8) $5 with Sportsbet

If you backed Chris Waller’s five-year-old mare last start at Flemington in the Inglis Bracelet on Oaks Day, you would have every right to still be in shock as to how she got beat. She was held up severely from the 250m, only saw daylight over the last 50m and put in some big strides to only go down by a head in a heartbreaking watch for followers. She gets the services of Damien Oliver for the first time in her career, and with a touch more luck from barrier two, she looks hard to hold out in this BM78 for fillies and mares.

Best ValueRace 9 – Housay (#13) $7.50 with Sportsbet

Shea Eden enlists the services of Craig Williams for the first time in this lightly raced four-year-old gelding’s career. He went around as the market elect on Oaks Day in the Subzero Handicap but was vulnerable late after failing to settle for Ben Allen throughout the running. The drop back from that BM90 to this BM78 looks ideal for a galloper who has won twice from four career starts. If he can settle a lot nicer in the run, Housay should prove hard to hold out at each-way odds.
