Moonee Valley racing tips & odds – Friday, 25 September 2020

Moonee Valley night racing

The night racing season commences at Moonee Valley on Friday with the Moir Stakes meeting, which features a number of impressive races throughout the card. The Group 1 feature sprint takes centre stage, but the Group 2 JRA Cup, Group 2 Stocks Stakes and Group 3 Scarborough Stakes also boast strong fields.

With up to 10mm of rain expected on race day, the Good 3 rating probably won’t last. It will be worth watching the first race or two to see how the track plays before heavily investing. The first race is set to jump at 5:15pm AEST, with the rail in the true position for the entire circuit.

Friday racing tips for Moonee Valley

Best BetRace 3 – Alfa Oro Get the best odds

Matt Laurie has himself a potential star in Alfa Oro, who resumes after a three-month layoff and looks to be a class above this lot. He will take up the running and dictate the speed over the 955m. He was superb during the winter months when leading all the way down the Flemington straight and then backed it up a month later at Caulfield. He is yet to finish outside of the quinella, while every one of his runs has come either on rain-affected ground or on the synthetic. This looks one of the nicer bets of the weekend.

Next BestRace 5 – Dirty Thoughts Get the best odds

This 3YO filly for the Ellerton & Zahra team is a gutsy on-paced runner with no quit in her. She scored here two starts back before going down half a length to Night Raid, who goes around in the Thousand Guineas Prelude tomorrow at Caulfield. From barrier 11, Jamie Kah will be able to get across and take up the running. Usual jockey Daniel Moor is out suspended, but Kah is in career-best form and knows how to rate them perfectly up front.

Best ValueRace 7 – Jungle Edge Get the best odds

If the rain comes, the money will come for Mick Bell’s wet-track marvel. The Valley often becomes a leader’s paradise in soggy conditions, and those two factors suit Jungle Edge like no other. He is yet to win a Group 1, but could he prove a knockout chance here?
