Moonee Valley night racing

What Manikato Stakes Night
Where Moonee Valley Racecourse – 1 McPherson St, Moonee Ponds VIC 3039
When Friday, October 23, 2020
First Race 5:15pm AEDT

It’s Manikato Stakes Night this Friday at Moonee Valley for the traditional meeting the night before the Cox Plate. Plenty of sprinting stars will feature in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes, which rounds out a solid eight-race card. There’s a bit of concern with some heavy rain forecasted from the midway point of the card, but here’s hoping we can get through the meeting without much hassle. The first race is set to jump at 5:15pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 2 – West Wind (#1) $2.90 with Sportsbet

We were with West Wind when she took out the Pinker Pinker Plate at Cranbourne a fortnight ago, and there looks to be no reason to jump off her now. From barrier one she maps perfectly for her style of racing, and John Allen can either take up the running or take a sit just off the leaders’ heels. She goes up a kilogram but has plenty of experience racing with a big weight. She hasn’t missed a place in any of her last five starts and looks well placed to complete a hat-trick of wins here.

Next BestRace 4 – So Si Bon (#1) $2.80 with Sportsbet

So Si Bon will not know himself as he races outside of Group level for the first time since May. The in-form Mark Zahra hops back on board, and he has a great affiliation with the now-7YO gelding. He maps to get the run of the race from barrier four and should have a bit too much class for the small field. Three runs back he was under two lengths away from Fierce Impact in the Makybe Diva Stakes, and he wasn’t far beaten in the Memsie Stakes the start prior.

Best ValueRace 6 – Chrome Angel (#4) $17 with Sportsbet

There’s no doubt that connections have decent expectations about this now-3YO filly after a respectable campaign in her 2YO season, where she won two races on rain-affected ground. If the rain arrives as forecasted, it will increase her chances in a race filled with a few chances. She maps to get a beautiful run into the race from barrier 10, while her two wins from three starts at 1000m make for good reading.
