Moonee Valley betting preview – February 12, 2021
Moonee Valley will host an eight-race card on Friday as the night racing season continues for another week. The featured event is the 2500m Listed Torney Night Cup, which is worth $150,000. With a near-perfect night for racing forecasted and the rail in the true position throughout, we should see a cracking evening of racing from 6:30pm AEDT onwards.
Best Bet: Elderflower
Elderflower is in career-best form, and we think the Lindsey Smith-trained mare can complete a hat-trick of wins on Friday night. She has strung together consecutive victories in dominant front-running fashion and maps to do something similar here. Her win over this track and distance on January 22 had the form franked last week when the third-placed Heavenly Bridges came out and won last week’s 955m dash. There looks to be plenty of early speed in the race, but from barrier seven Lachie Neindorf will use his 2kg claim to get to the front early. This has all the makings of a barrier-to-box type of win.
Race 5 – Elderflower (#4)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1361251_05]
Next Best: Mosh Music
A genuine tempo over the last 1000m suited the Archie Alexander-trained Mosh Music to perfection last time out at Sandown on January 23. She took a while to get there but over the last 200m showed a nice turn of foot to hold out a fellow backmarker in the shadows of the winning post. Mosh Music is a proven track specialist with three wins and a minor placing in five starts at The Valley, and he has won over the 2500m as well. Jordan Childs has a strong association with the mare, notching up five wins from nine rides. Mosh Music will look to make his move at the 600m from the back of the field and should be too strong late.
Race 4 – Mosh Music (#2)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1361251_04]
Best Value: Entrapped
The Graeme McCulloch-trained Entrapped made an impressive Melbourne debut when running second behind Cut It Out on February 5 over the 1000m at The Valley. The filly now steps up to 1200m, where she has won in the past in Tasmania, and looks like she will appreciate the extra furlong. Expect Jamie Kah to roll the filly forward from barrier two, and with not much early speed engaged she could get a quiet time of it out in front.
Race 7 – Entrapped (#11)[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1361251_07]
