Moonee Valley betting preview – March 19, 2021
Eight races are scheduled to be run and won on Friday night for William Reid Stakes Night at Moonee Valley. The meeting marks the end of the night racing season at The Valley, and the card accompanying the finale would stack up on any given Saturday. The featured Group 1 William Reid Stakes comes up in Race 7, accompanied by the Sunline Stakes (R6) and Alexandra Stakes (R4). The rail is set in the true position and the track is rated a Soft 5, but a favourable forecast suggests we should be starting on a Good 4.
Best Bet: Chica Fuerte
Our best bet on Friday night comes up in the Group 3 Alexandra Stakes, where Chica Fuerte will look to go one better than her runner-up performance in the Kewney Stakes. Although out-bobbed in a three-way go by Starelle, the horse she beat home was the 2020 VRC Oaks winner, Personal. A genuine tempo is expected, and that should suit the Hinchinbrook filly down to the ground. From barrier eight she will go to the rear of the field, and when jockey Mark Zahra asks for an effort with 400m to go, expect her to peel out and charge home down the outside.

Next Best: Marabi
Two starts for two wins with a combined winning margin of 13 lengths is the form we like to follow, and that belongs to Marabi. The Maher & Eustace-trained mare by I Am Invincible won over this track and distance three weeks ago when untouched down to the line, which was very similar to her win at Pakenham on debut on February 11. Expect Ben Allen to use barrier four to his advantage and settle the mare in a prominent position. Marabi should be far too quick for her rivals over the 1200m as she maintains her perfect record.

Best Value: Milliondollarbill
We were with the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Milliondollarbill when he found plenty to win at Pakenham on March 5 over 2025m. Expect Michael Poy to use barrier two to his advantage and have this Epaulette gelding up on speed. He steps up to BM70 company for the first time in his career, but if he is afforded a quiet time of it out in front, he should get the job done for us once again.
