Moonee Valley is scheduled to host its weekly eight-race card on Friday night, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert presents his best bets and quaddie picks for the evening. The track is rated a Good 4 with the rail out 3m the entire circuit, and if history is anything to go by, then being up on speed should be no disadvantage under these conditions. The meeting is set to commence at 6:15pm AEDT.
Moonee Valley Best Bet – Direct
In the opening leg of the quaddie, the Lloyd Kennewell-trained Direct is set to resume off a three-month spell and brings an element of class to this Class 1 affair. The three-year-old colt by Siyouni split the proven duo of Profiteer and Enthaar last time out down the Flemington straight on Melbourne Cup Day and is set to appreciate the massive drop in class. Despite winning once from eight starts, he is clearly coming to The Valley for an easy kill. He draws barrier four and with Josh Richards on board with his 2kg claim, we anticipate Direct will be just that and dictate terms throughout, kick for home on the home turn and prove too hard to run down.
Next Best Bet at Moonee Valley – Laundy
The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Laundy can be a tricky conveyance to catch, but we are expecting his return to The Valley to be the winning move. Having been well below par at Caulfield and Flemington in his past two starts, he looks once of the better bets at Moonee Valley considering his record. Having won once from four starts and had three runner-up performances to go with it, it is a near certainty that an improved performance will come at this run. From barrier two, Will Price will look to have him lobbed on the leader’s heels and with a nice turn of foot at the back end of 2040m, Laundy should prove too hard to hold out.
Moonee Valley Value Bet – Little Pickle
We were with the Jason Warren & Dean Krongold-trained Little Pickle when she won at Kilmore on January 25 and looks well-placed to bring up another win, this time at metropolitan level. The four-year-old mare by Unencumbered will need a touch of luck early on from barrier nine under Beau Mertens as she tends to do her best racing when settling in the first four. If Mertens can get her across and not get caught wide throughout, we expect Little Pickle will handle the rise in class with great aplomb and ultimately prove too hard to hold out. Online bookies are offering as much as $26 for the win, so get around it.
