Moonee Valley night racing preview
An eight-race card at The Valley is the perfect entree to the main course of Derby Day on Saturday. The track has responded nicely to the good weather since Cox Plate Day, coming up a Good 4 at the time of writing. The rail has come out to the 5m mark, so there should be no excuses for any on-speed gallopers. The first on Friday night is set to jump at 5:30pm AEDT.
Race 1 – Bobsled (#7)Richard Laming has enlisted the services of the in-form Jamie Kah to help break the maiden tag for his 3YO gelding. The horse looked to have been a good thing at Mornington a fortnight ago but had next to no luck in the home straight at crucial times. Prior to that he was green on debut when caught in the shadows of the winning post after leading the field up. From barrier seven, Kah may elect to take her mount to the front, and if she can take luck out of the equation, then Bobsled should prove hard to catch as he looks to bring up his maiden victory at start three.

Race 5 – Whipcracker Way (#2)Phillip Stokes’ 4YO gelding has shown fine form since resuming this campaign and was ultra impressive in beating the up-and-coming duo of Mrs Beckham and Housay at Moe a fortnight ago. Apprentice Alexandra Bryan seems to be the recipe for success, as they’re undefeated in three starts since she jumped in the saddle. Over the 955m, he maps to be the leader of the race and will look to break the hearts of his rivals with a high tempo expected throughout.

Race 6 – Chrome Angel (#12)The in-form Ellerton Zahra stable will be hoping their now-3YO filly can build on her promising debut campaign when she resumes on Friday night. Expect Daniel Moor to settle her just off the pace from barrier three, and with an economical run she should be fighting out the finish at decent each-way odds. She gets the tongue tie on for the first time, and with the 56kg she gets in well in the weights over some key market rivals.
