Moonee Valley night racing preview
Racing returns to The Valley this week for an eight-part card under the Friday night lights. The track has come up as a Good 4, but with a perfect Spring evening forecasted, we should see an upgrade early on in the card to a Good 3. The rail is out to the 7m mark, so it may pay to be up on speed on the fresher ground early in the meeting. The first on Friday night will jump at 5:30pm AEDT.
We’ll be hoping that the Anthony Freedman and Lachie Neindorf combination can bring our best tip of the night to the winners’ stall. Tragic doesn’t know how to run a bad race, as she has only missed the placings on one occasion from nine career starts. The slight query is she doesn’t win out of turn, as she has only been victorious once, and that was back in her second career start 18 months ago. She draws to do no work from barrier one, and Neindorf will look to settle just off the leaders heels. With a bit of luck at the top of the home straight, this mare should prove hard to go past in the concluding stages.

Tony McEvoy’s 4YO gelding broke the track record for the 955m dash at The Valley three starts ago and has since won at Sale on a Heavy 10. Last time out, he was beaten by under a length in his first attempt up the Flemington straight when sent around as the second market elect. He gets back to Moonee Valley, where he has won twice from three starts, and will look to make this a genuine sprint throughout.

Luke Oliver’s 6YO mare went around at Flemington in the opening race on Stakes Day last time out and was far from disgraced at big odds, going down by just over one-and-a-half lengths. She settled towards the back of the field on that day and was doing her best work late. Prior to that, she went around as an odds-on favourite at Moe and got the job done convincingly over the concluding stages. She’ll stay all day, and with a bit of luck from the wide barrier, she looks to be a bit of a bank builder in the penultimate race of the night.
