Best Bet at Moonee Valley: Chandon Burj

We do not need to wait too long for our best bet on the card when the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Chandon Burj steps out in the opening event. The four-year-old mare was beaten less than a half-length to the well-fancied Matron Bullwinkel during the Melbourne Cup Carnival and considering it looks set to be a favourable night for leaders, she is sure to give her rivals something to catch. Damien Oliver sticks on board, which is an added bonus and from barrier three should have no issue in lobbing on the bunny, kicking off the bend and ultimately prove too hard to gun down.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silk#6 Chandon Burj (3)

4yo Mare | T: Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young | J: Damien Oliver (59kg)

$4.20 with Bet365

Next Best at Moonee Valley: Little Mermaid

We will be looking to bookend the program when the Patrick Payne-trained Little Mermaid looks to bounce back from an unlucky performance at the Moonee Valley 1200m on October 28. The lightly raced six-year-old mare was badly held up for a run approaching the home turn and when in clear air managed to knuckle down expertly to godown by the barest of margins. From barrier six, traffic issues should not be a problem and as she showed last time, a rain-affected ground will not be her undoing. She’s second-up off a long spell and repeat effort of what we saw last time out, should see Little Mermaid picking up a second win at just her seventh start.

Next Best

Race 8 – Silk#10 Little Mermaid (6)

6yo Mare | T: Patrick Payne | J: Harry Coffey (58kg)

$3.60 with Palmerbet

Best Value at Moonee Valley: Neodium

The Phillip Stokes-trained Neodium has been racing in consistent form this preparation and considering he will be up on speed throughout; he is sure to take some catching. Apprentice Sheridan Clarke hops on board claiming 3kg and considering Neodium is a 75-rater going around in a BM70, he simply looks perfectly placed. He has two wins from six starts on Soft going and with three wins from five tries at the 1600m, there doesn’t look to be too many excuses for the son of Terango. Under a well-rated steer, we expect Neodium will salute in the penultimate race of the evening.

Best Value

Race 7 – Silk#3 Neodium (9)

6yo Gelding | T: Phillip Stokes | J: Sheridan Clarke (a3) (62.5kg)

$6.50 with Betfair
