Monaco Snob makes it three wins in a row

Tough gelding Monaco Snob has confirmed a rating as one of the most promising stayers in Queensland with his Sunshine Coast win.

Monaco Snob ($3.50) made it three wins in a row when he beat Antigone ($8) by two lengths with 2-3/4 lengths to Colour Of Money ($7.50) in the Hotspot Titanium Handicap (2200m).

Trainer Robert Heathcote said he had early reservations about Monaco Snob who he once feared would never win a race.

“To put it plainly he was a danger to himself and to his handlers. He was the stable fool but gradually the penny has dropped with him,” Heathcote said.

“But I also have to admit I felt once he got out to 2200 metres on big tracks we might see a good horse.”

“He has along way to go but there is another one of these races at 2200 metres in a fortnight and we will keep going and see where he takes us.”

Heathcote believes Monaco Snob will need to really step up in class if he is to be a winter carnival and Magic Millions carnival-type horse.

“But he is by Monaco Consul and they all stay. They also seem to get better with age,” he said.

Jockey Michael Hellyer continued his good run with an armchair ride on Monaco Snob.

“He had then covered a long way out,” he said.
