Moir Stakes 2020 betting tips, odds & form

Nature Strip

We are back racing under lights for the first time this season at The Valley for the Group 1 Moir Stakes over 1000m. It is shaping to be a seriously good sprint given the likes of Fabergino, Bella Vella, Trekking, Away Game and Brooklyn Hustle feature at the top end of the market. They’ll be running along in slick time, with Bella Vella, Fabergino, Hey Doc, Jungle Edge, Ashlor and Pippie all likely to pursue the lead. The race will jump at 8:15pm AEST on Friday night.

Friday racing tips for 2020 Moir Stakes

Best BetHanseatic Get the best odds

The race will be run to suit a backmarker, and we think Hanseatic fits the mould. The three-year-old colt gets in with just 52kg under weight-for-age conditions, and he is drawn beautifully in barrier seven to settle midfield and stalk the speed. He is a high-quality animal and looks underrated at around $15 with most online bookmakers. After winning his first three races, he started a short favourite in the Blue Diamond and finished second to the talented Tagaloa. He will take great benefit from the run a fortnight ago at this track when he finished fourth behind Bella Vella, Ashlor and Brooklyn Hustle after being caught wide throughout. He looks a genuine lightweight chance who can flash down the centre of the track over the top of them.

Next BestPippie Get the best odds

This year’s Oakleigh Plate winner returns to action for the first time since her even-money failure at Caulfield back in April. Prior to that run, she finished fourth at this track behind Loving Gaby, Gytrash and Bivouac, which is a serious form line for this race. She was a dominant winner in the Oakleigh Plate over 1100m in February when first up, and she is also undefeated from three starts when fresh. She has drawn well in barrier five to go forward early and potentially tough it out. Pippie hasn’t missed the quinella from two starts at 1000m, while the likely hot tempo could mean the winning post comes at just the right time for her. While we expect that something will finish over the top of the leaders, we are getting $8 or $9 to find out.

Best ValueDiamond Effort Get the best odds

Diamond Effort is simply a mare in form as she shoots for her sixth straight win. While this is her toughest test to date, she continually raises the bar and takes her form to the next level, which was seen when she won a Group 3 race last start. She has to turn it up another one or two notches here, but we expect her to be right in this. Drawn terrifically in barrier six, Ben Melham will stalk the speed and pounce late on the five-year-old. It will be her first look around The Valley, which is a slight concern, but we expect her to handle the track given she has raced well at Caulfield and Mornington. The form around her is good and she is a winner over 1000m once in the past. Her best racing tends to be when she is fresh, so we think she’ll be firing after a three-week spell.
