Moe horse racing preview

Thursday’s eight-race card at Moe looks to be one of the more competitive midweek meetings we have seen at the Gippsland track for some time. The surface has come up as a Good 4, and with the rail out to the 5m mark, runners should enjoy the fresh ground considering how much racing the track has held recently. The first field will face the starter at 1:30pm AEDT.

Best BetRace 3 – Sugartown (#11) Get the best odds

Danny O’Brien’s 3YO filly was sent around as a well-backed favourite on debut at Kyneton a fortnight ago but failed to get the job done despite hitting the lead in the home straight. She settled up on speed and seemed to hit the front too early, which left her vulnerable late in the piece. Even so, Sugartown had enough of a gap on the remainder of the field to show that she should provide a huge sight here. She has the early speed to overcome a tricky barrier and should prove to be hard to run down with Daniel Moor on board.

Next BestRace 5 – Anirishman (#2) Get the best odds

Ben Allen jumps on board Anirishman, who was a dominant all-the-way victor as the favourite at his last start at Kilme three weeks ago. Despite drifting in the market, the Maher & Eustace gelding kicked with 200m to go and was too strong for his rivals in the end, putting together his second win at his third start. From barrier two, he maps to use up no energy in the early stages and should get an easy time of it up front. With a bit of luck, this can be an action replay of his last-start effort.

Best ValueRace 7 – Black Opal (#1) Get the best odds

John and Patrick Moloney combine in the penultimate race of the day with Black Opal, who boasts an impressive two wins from three starts over this track and distance. The 5YO gelding gets the blinkers removed and instead will have the winkers on for the first time. He’s a galloper who prefers to race up on speed; his win here three starts back here was a tough all-the-way run, while wasn’t beaten far in a similar effort at Cranbourne three weeks ago.
