A win in a race at Sandown has also come at a cost for young jockey Jye McNeil after he was fined for breaching the whip rules.

Stewards fined McNeil $1000 for using the whip nine times before the 100m mark in Wednesday’s Chandler Macleod Handicap (2400m) aboard eventual winner Tuff Bickie, four times more than allowed.

McNeil was one of three riders fined for whip breaches during the Sandown meeting.

Stephen Baster was fined $500 for using the whip the same amount of times before the 100m in the same race aboard Goodwood Zodiac who was beaten a short half-head by Tuff Bickie.

Apprentice Mitch Aitken was fined $400 for using the whip twice more than allowed before the 100m in a later race aboard fourth placegetter Tranquil Miss.

Premier Melbourne jockey Craig Williams returns on Saturday at Flemington from a six-meeting suspension incurred for a whip breach at Caulfield on Sunday.

Williams opted not to appeal and his book of eight rides on Chester Manifold Stakes day includes Lite’n In My Veins in the main race.

Lite’n In My Veins shares the second line of early betting at $6 behind Dollar For Dollar ($3.40) who will be ridden by McNeil.
