Manfred Stakes betting at Caulfield with form, odds and free tips

Caulfield betting tips

PUNTERS love betting on quality thoroughbreds and there’s plenty of them in action across nine races at Caulfield on Saturday.

The highlight of the day is the Group 3 Manfred Stakes where the likes of Morton’s Fork, Hey Doc and Derryn will light up the track.

In one of the better betting fields of the day, the three-year-olds are preparing for the upcoming autumn carnival, which should make for a great race on Saturday.

The juveniles are also in action with the Inglis Premier 2YO and The Chairman’s Stakes, which should prove to be a good guide for the Blue Diamond later this month.

Sign up to Ladbrokes.com.au and punters will get an odds boost for the Manfred Stakes and the Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Race 1 – Ian Miller Handicap (1600m)

Zasorceress was a stylish winner at Moonee Valley after getting a good ride from Damian Lane. The four-year-old was held up during the run, but it weaved through the field and sprinted over the top of them late. It has been well-respected in the market and another good run looks likely.

Hot Ruby isn’t without a chance after running back-to-back placings. The Luke Oliver-trained mare drops back in distance for this after running third at Caulfield last start, which isn’t ideal, but it doesn’t hurt to have Craig Williams in the saddle from barrier one.

My Obsession has been around the mark this preparation and its best effort came last time out. The Darren Weir-trained runner finished well for second and it gets in well on the weights after the claim of Ben Allen. Should give a good sight at each way odds.

Race 1 tip: Zasorceress to win ($2.60) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Robert Hunter Handicap (2000m)

Sir Prospector is an imported gelding which is having its fourth Australian start. The Robert Hickmott-trained five-year-old has yet to win in Australia, but it ran on well last start and the extra distance will suit the son of Galileo. Ben Melham rides at a luxury weight of 54kg.

Hursley is a talented stayer which returned to form with a big finish behind Big Duke last start. The Waller-trained gelding has yet to finish worse than third in four starts at this track and the rise in grade shouldn’t worry it overly much. It’s the current favourite at $2.60 and should be competitive.

Dodging Bullets is a last start winner which has every chance of going back-to-back. The Symon Wilde-trained gelding has won and placed in two starts at Caulfield and despite rising in weight, it could push them close with the claimer in the saddle.

Race 2 tip: Hursley to win ($2.60) at Bet365.com

Race 3 – Mal Seccul Handicap (2400m)

Oncidium Ruler tests the patience of punters, but it did win well two back and it should be considered. The five-year-old gelding didn’t back it up last start, but not everything went its way and Craig Williams takes over the riding duties. Handy chance at $4.20.

Chance To Dance is a six-time winner which closed off well behind Goldstream last start. The Hickmott-trained gelding has prepared nicely for this 2400m race and it will appreciate firm track conditions. It’s knocking on the door and it is the current favourite with bookmakers.

Sir Laszlo is a chance at double-figure odds. The Weir-trained gelding boxed on well in a similar race last start and it has won twice at this distance. This is its first start around Caulfield, but it should be considered at each way odds.

Race 3 tip: Chance To Dance to win ($3.20) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 4 – Inglis Premier 2YO (1200m)

Perast couldn’t have been more impressive when winning on debut at Scone. The Paul Perry-trained colt won by 3.5 lengths over an inferior field, but the son of Snitzel has plenty of upside and it has plenty of natural gate speed which helps. Supported on the second line of betting.

Coppergate is on debut for Tony McEvoy after running second in a trial at Geelong. It clearly had plenty in reserve as it’s come out here on the third line of betting at $9.50. The colt by Helmut should get every chance from the inside barrier and it might pay to watch for any market movement.

Jukebox is the current $2.20 favourite after winning easily on debut. The Ciaron Maher-trained colt won by 1.25 lengths at Geelong in fine style and there has been plenty of money come for it during the week. Williams takes the ride and Maher is confident of a good showing.

Race 4 tip: Jukebox to win ($2.20) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 5 – The Chairman’s Stakes (1000m)

Aspect was a good winner on debut at Flemington, but the punters haven’t come for it so far. The Tony McEvoy-trained colt won the Maribyrnong Plate at Flemington which has been a good form guide and it deserves plenty of respect. Tricky draw, but the $4.40 is worth taking.

Formality along took on moderate opposition at Werribee on debut, but it looked special in doing so. The Hayes/Dabernig-trained filly scored by 4.3 lengths at odds of $1.40 and punters are getting $3 for this. It has the breeding and the weight to suggest it could remain unbeaten from two starts.

Spoils hasn’t been far away in two starts to date, which included a second in the Debutante Stakes. The Clinton McDonald-trained filly finished fourth in the Blue Diamond Preview behind Limestone last start and that form should be taken seriously. It drops in weight and isn’t the worst hope in a tough field.

Race 5 tip: Aspect to win ($4.40) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 6 – John Moule R78 Handicap (1100m)

Cool Snitzel was backed and beaten in two starts last campaign and the punters have come again. The David Brideoake-trained mare finished last in the Lightning Stakes before running 12th in a rating 70 graded race at Sandown. Despite that form it’s currently $5.50 to win and punters will be hoping it shows its usual speed when fresh up.

Danuki is a good horse to follow and punters shouldn’t be deterred by its past two efforts. It put together three-straight wins before rising in grade and this looks a more suitable target. It gets some weight relief and the $5 suggests it will be tough to beat.

Turbo Miss has a tough draw to contend with, but the Weir runner could surprise. It has won and placed from three starts at this distance and it might go forward and give them something to catch. It has been specked into $7.50.

Race 6 tip: Danuki to place ($2.30) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 7 – The Manfred Stakes (1200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1129106_07]

Morton’s Fork is having its first run since winning the Sandown Guineas and it usually runs well fresh. The John O’Shea-trained colt is a winner of four from nine and it has competed against some of the best three-year-olds in Australia. This distance will likely be short of its best, but consider at $5 for the win.

Derryn is a quality colt for Lindsay Park which resumes after finishing seventh in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington. The son of Hinchinbrook won a quality race at Caulfield before taking on the likes of Divine Prophet, Astern and Flying Artie in subsequent runs. This is easier and it should be putting in the big bounds late.

Into Orbit has plenty of upside after winning its first two career starts. The Hawkes-trained colt won on debut by 4.5 lengths before producing a determined run to win narrowly at Sandown. An easier win was expected last start as the $1.85 favourite, but it has fitness on its side and this distance is ideal. Upset chance at $7.50.

Race 7 tip: Derryn to win ($4.60) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 8 – Le Pine Funerals W.J. Adams Stakes (1000m)

Faatinah is one trial for a run in Dubai and this looks a suitable target. The Hayes/Dabernig-trained gelding didn’t handle the class last start at Sandown, but it has since trialled well and it is unbeaten in all three fresh up starts. Just needs some luck in running from a wide barrier.

Thermal Current returned to form with a win last start and it’s not without a chance again. The Weir-trained gelding has yet to win in 10 starts at Caulfield, but it has placed four times and it was too good for them at Flemington last start. Chance here at $7.50.

Lady Esprit sprinted well to win last start at Moonee Valley and this track should suit. The Maher-trained mare has now won back-to-back races in good style and it can run quick enough times to compete at this level. The weight helps and it has been well-backed at $4.80.

Race 8 tip: Lady Esprit to win ($4.80) at Palmerbet.com.au

Race 9 – Darren Gauci Farewell Handicap (1400m)

Show A Star has won five from 15 starts and it has won twice second up. The Matt Cumani-trained gelding resumed over the mile and is dropping back in distance here, which is surprising, but it’s yet to miss the money in four starts over 1400m and it could offer some value at $9.

Duke Of Brunswick brings the class factor to the race and it looks set to run well after two solid efforts. The Mick Price-trained gelding pushed Grande Rosso close last start on this track and it gets in with a great weight of 54kg with Oliver in the saddle. Looks hard to beat at $2.60.

Smart Dart is a consistent type which always gives its all. It has won three of its last five starts and Ben Thompson’s claim takes it down to 52.5kg. Each way chance at that weight.

Race 9 tip: Duke Of Brunswick to win ($2.60) at CrownBet.com.au
