Racing Queensland is set to again examine whether to introduce mandatory barrier trials for horses before they can start in races.

In Queensland horses must get a barrier certificate in a jump-out or trial before they can race.

Several punters’ groups have been pushing for mandatory public trials before a horse can start.

RQ officials believe if all horses had at least one trial before a start it would help across the board and in particular with vision.

Trainers and owners are not totally opposed to the idea but want a clearer and more defined policy on where and when trials will be held.

RQ officials are set to meet with trainers in the next week to discuss the issue.

In NSW, horses must have an official barrier trial before starting in a race.
