Mallyon, Holland charged over Valley rides

Jockeys Katelyn Mallyon and Dean Holland have been charged over their handling of their respective mounts in the same 3000m race at Moonee Valley last month.

Mallyon rode Valediction in the race on February 3 at the night meeting while Holland was aboard Barge And Charge.

Both horses weakened out of the race to finish tailed off after running along in front at what what stewards described as an extremely fast tempo.

Barge And Charge was beaten 33 lengths while Valediction was beaten 53 lengths.

Stewards allege the actions of Holland on Barge And Charge and Mallyon on Valediction during specific sections of the race did not afford their mounts full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible placing.

A date for hearings into the charges in front of the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board is yet to be set.
