Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic betting preview

Wednesday’s feature race around the country is the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic at Listed level. A full field of 14 with five emergencies has been assembled for the $200,000 feature. Swift Witness has opened favourite after two trial victories, ahead of Breeder’s Plate third-placegetter Astrologer and Victory Vein Plate third-placegetter She’s All Class. The barrier draw is key here, given a number of unknowns surrounding speed maps due to those having their first and second starts.

With very little exposed form, we are siding with one that has had the benefit of a race start – the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Astrologer. The colt by Star Turn out of a Fastnet Rock mare was a $300,000 purchase by James Harron Bloodstock, and he impressed on debut when third to Shaquero in the Breeder’s Plate. On that occasion, he was buried away on the fence and had to ease across heels in the concluding stages before hitting the line nicely. He’s since been back at the trials and enjoyed a narrow win there, which would have bought him on brilliantly for this. Up to 1100m will suit, and after scratchings he is likely to jump from gate nine under Jason Collett. He looks an adaptable colt, so expect him to be comfortable anywhere in the running. Have something on him to win here, and a little something on him at $26 in the Gold Coast Magic Millions Classic too.

Race favourite Swift Witness lines up on debut after two trial wins. The $260,000 Gold Coast purchase has drawn well in barrier seven and will likely lead the field based on her two trials. By Star Witness, the well-bred filly looks a genuine ready-to-run type. Trained by renowned two-year-old trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, and to be ridden by the stable’s first-choice hoop, Tim Clark, we can expect Swift Witness to be forward enough to win this. Look for market support on the day.

Snowdrop looks the value in the race after running a tough third on debut at Newcastle in the Max Lees Classic over 900m. After leading the field that day on debut, the filly by Capitalist was game in defeat. Headed by eventual winner Sliders, who has since placed in Sydney, the $120,000 purchase stuck on nicely. Up to 1100m may suit if she can get a softer time of it in the run from the cushy draw in barrier two. Rachel King hops aboard, which is a big plus, Include her in your multiples.
