Mackay racing preview
A big nine-race card will be conducted at the Sugar City of Mackay from 12:45pm AEST this Thursday afternoon. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out +2m for the entire circumference. Let’s take a look at the best bets on offer at Australia’s leading online bookmakers.
Race 5 – Charles Seven (#2)Charles Seven is clearly not the full quid when it comes to being a racehorse, but the form around him is too good to let through to the keeper when we are getting even money about him. After throwing the race away first up, the enigmatic gelding flew late on his next go before having a long hard think about it in the straight at Yeppoon last time out to be beaten 0.2L. Ryan Wiggins stays aboard, and from barrier five the pair can settle outside the likely leader, Final Warning, who has drawn inside them. Back to 1100m is a plus, as he has won at that range in the past, and we think he should be too good.

Race 2 – Cracker Essgee (#5)We really liked the way Cracker Essgee went about his business as a very short favourite in maiden grade last start at this track when winning by 2L. He now drops back to 1100m and steps up in class, which is naturally some concern, but he keeps Justin Stanley on board and drops 0.5kg. Drawn to do no work in barrier two, we envisage the Hvasstan gelding to settle midfield on the fence and charge over the top late. He hasn’t missed the places in his last five runs, and we don’t expect that to change here.

Race 8 – Brad (#2)We struggled to find much value in this nine-race card, so we are going to throw in the punters’ pal, Brad, as another special. Lining up in the Open 1300m, he will start a short-priced favourite despite being beaten last start. Prior to that he strung four wins together, all at this track. His record at Mackay (8:5-1-2) is superb, and he should add to the tally today. With Justin Stanley aboard from barrier seven, they’ll let the race unfold and finish off right over the top of them. He’s got a great name and a great attitude when it comes to racing, and he should simply win this. For favourite punters who fancy a little multi, Cinnamon Missile comes up a similar price in race four and should also get it done.
