What Mackay Races
Where Mackay Turf Club – 9 Peak Downs Hwy, Ooralea QLD 4740
When Tuesday, May 11, 2021
First Race 1:12pm AEST

Mackay will play host to seven country races on Tuesday afternoon in Queensland. Perfect racing conditions will see the track start as a Good 4, and the rail is out just the 3m for the entire circumference of the course. HorseBetting.com.au’s Queensland form analyst has found three bets to have for the day, as well as a suggested quaddie. The first race is due to face the starter at 1:12pm AEST.

Best Bet: Cochrane

Cochrane makes his North Queensland debut in a 2YO Maiden Plate on Tuesday, and given the form he brings into this, he should win this. The son of Spirit of Boom is a full brother to the very talented Miami Fliess and has shown that ability in his three runs to date. After debuting in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes at Eagle Farm, where he was beaten in a photo to Alpine Edge, he went back to Sydney and failed to beat a runner home, although that field included the likes of Rocket Tiger and Vandoula Lass. He then started as an even-money favourite at the Sunshine Coast and worked home well before being sold for $32,000 on the Inglis Digital Platform. That form looks very good for a Mackay maiden, and he is in with only 59kg under Ryan Wiggins. This is, by far, the best of the day.

Best BetRace 2 – Cochrane (#1) $2.05 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Ask Me Tomorrow

This is one of better races of the afternoon on Tuesday, with a field of 10 three-year-olds set to do battle over 1100m en route to the $100,000 Northern Jewel to be run at this track on May 29. Young trainer Tom Smith saddles up Ask Me Tomorrow, the horse that won Smith’s very first race back in March last year. The son of Red Dazzler won three straight races in the 2020 autumn and then failed to win a race in his campaign over November and December, but he was always around the money behind some very handy gallopers. His recent trial win was very impressive, and the gelding gets to a track where he has won two from three. Gamboa, the main danger, has 2.5kg more here and has drawn wider, which gives Ask Me Tomorrow a definite edge. Watch the betting for added confidence.

Next BestRace 3 – Ask Me Tomorrow (#2) $3.50 with Sportsbet

Best Value: Sequablur

Jared Wehlow’s six-year-old gelding Sequablur can be ready to win third-up from a spell in the final race of the day. The son of Sequalo has finished third in both runs this time in, with his fresh run behind Princess Rules and The Egyptian, before finishing on the heels of Star Of O’Reilly and Gamboa at his latest. He will come into barrier seven once the emergencies come out, and although he does have to carry a big weight (62kg), Ash Butler is a known heavyweight rider. Butler will take him to the front, which is regularly an advantage around Mackay, and he can let his class get him home. Without too much pressure in this, he will be there for a long way again.

Best ValueRace 7 – Sequablur (#1) $5 with Sportsbet
