Locally trained Patch Adams floored punters when the Aaron Purcell-trained son of Dane Shadow took out the second leg of the quaddie at +10000.
His win in the $60,000 Magic Millions National Sale Handicap came at his 79th career start, and the eight-year-old took out the race as an unwanted commodity despite being desperately unwanted in the market first up from a spell.
Jockey Will Price recorded his first ever win at the Warrnambool May Racing Carnival when pairing up with Patch Adams as they did in the Mount Gambier Cup in December 2019.
Following the race Purcell admitted that he gave his other runner Guizot the better chance with the pair travelling together throughout the event.
The son of Dane Shadow loomed up at the 300m mark and with 100m he never looked like getting beaten, and in the process destroyed the hopes of many a quaddie punter.
Patch Adams’ win on Tuesday took his earnings past $800,000 for the runner who was originally purchased for $70,000.
Purcell had received the Dane Shadow gelding at Easter last year, and his win on Tuesday was the third win for his trainer.
Following his win it added much needed value to the quaddie following a string of favourites winning throughout the day. The quaddie on the S-TAB paid a massive $48,798.40 and it is safe to say if punters managed a percentage of the Day 1 quaddie, their week is set up perfectly.
