The Listed Gold Sovereign for two-year-olds is the feature event of the day on the Launceston card and we are opting to side with the undefeated Bello Beau from the Adam Trinder stable. The bay gelding out of Brazen Beau was a dominant winner in the Listed Elwick Stakes last time out when putting two-lengths on his rivals having been pestered out in front when contesting the lead. With Brendon McCoull hopping back on board, we expect to see Bello beau roll forward and take up an uncontested lead. If he is afforded such a luxury, he looks a class above in a field like this with only two of his rival’s tasting success on race day before. The $1.85 on offer from Bet365 is generous, considering we have him marked as about a $1.35 chance.
Best Bet at Launceston: Bandinelli
Considering the way the Sigrid Carr-trained Bandinelli won at Devonport on January 5 showed us that he has plenty of ticker and will take some beating on Sunday. The five-year-old son of I Am Invincible was pestered for the lead throughout, but despite that fended off his rivals to claim victory by the barest of margins. He draws out wide on Sunday, so we anticipate apprentice Codi Jordan will look to have him settled outside the leader on this occasion. With Jordan’s 3kg claim, he will go around with just 58.5kg on his back which can only benefit his chances. Look for him to offer a kick on the home turn and with a genuine will to win, we anticipate Bandinelli will prove too hard to run down.
