2020 Ladies Day Cup betting preview

The 1600m Listed Ladies Day Cup has become a staple on the Thursday card at Hawkesbury on Oaks Day. A strong field of 13 has been put together for the 2020 edition, headlined by Looks Like Elvis, Archedemus and Military Zone. It’s $6 the field, with seven horses between $6 and $10. Archedemus will look to lead, with Spencer and Quintesa in behind.

Best BetLooks Like Elvis (#2) $6 with Sportsbet

We are going to side with Looks Like Elvis after he comes through some good races, including the Epsom and The Spring Mile. Jarrod Austin had the six-year-old gelding accepted in a race at Flemington on Tuesday but scratched to run here instead. Intent has been shown with the booking of Nash Rawiller, and it will be important that he produces a pearler from barrier 11. This horse has been racing very well without winning, and he just needs to go one or two better to get the job done in this.

Next BestMantastic (#1) $7 with Sportsbet

Mantastic was the first horse beaten in the Rosehill Gold Cup last time out, but he really picked up late on the Heavy 9 track to run fourth. He typically doesn’t go any good on rain-affected tracks, but that effort suggested he should go alright here on Soft going. Glyn Schofield retains the ride, and the pair might be able to settle a bit closer this time from barrier two. He’s a genuine miler but drops 400m on the five-day backup, which is a slight knock.

Best PlaceMatowi (#5) $2.35 with Sportsbet

Matowi is a very consistent gelding and has to be included in multiples. He comes out of the same race as Looks Like Elvis, and that form was franked by Purple Sector’s win at Flemington on Tuesday. He loomed as the winner two back, but the fitness edge just wasn’t enough to get him home. He loves 1600m and should be in a close enough spot to fire from barrier three. A win won’t shock us here.
