Kyneton racing preview – February 9, 2021
Kyneton will host yet another Tuesday afternoon meeting this week with eight races set down for decision. The rail is out 4m from the 1200m to the winning post, so we should not see too much track bias. The surface is rated a Soft 6 but should improve significantly by race day. The first at Kyneton is set to jump at 1:30pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Alverio
The Danny O’Brien-trained Alverio will be out to break her maiden tag at Kyneton following a first-up third at Geelong on January 15. It was a run full of merit, as she was held up at a crucial point in the home straight yet still managed to pinch a placing at big odds. She only goes up 1.5kg off that go and maps to get an economical run in transit from barrier two, just off the leader’s heels. If she is afforded a touch more luck early on in the home straight, she will prove hard to hold out.

Best Value: Lorente
The Maher & Eustace-trained Lorente will appreciate dropping back to a midweek BM58 following a last-start failure at Sandown on December 23. His win at Ararat two starts ago on December 8 was hugely impressive when sustaining a long run from the 800m to get home by just over three lengths. Ben Allen will hope on board for Lorente’s first run off a seven-week freshen up, and the horse looks well placed to get the job done at a nice price.
