Kilmore racing preview

An eight-race card at Kilmore on Friday serves as an appetiser to a blockbuster weekend of racing that includes Derby Day and the Golden Eagle. The track is a Soft 6 at the time of writing, but a favourable forecast suggests we should see an upgrade early on in the program. The rail is out 3m for the entire circuit and the weather is set fair for what looks to be a competitive card in central Victoria.

Best BetRace 3 – Blavatsky (#7) $2.35 with Sportsbet

Harry Coffey and the Maher & Eustace stable look to have a couple of decent prospects at Kilmore on Friday. This 3YO filly was far from disgraced at Bendigo last start, where she looked to be a winning chance entering the home straight but peaked late. Coming up to her third career start, she will benefit from the recent runs and should prove hard to catch here. Coffey should have no issue in dictating terms up front from barrier three, and she should get an easy time of it up front with not much speed engaged.

Next BestRace 6 – She’s A Karaka (#2) $3 with Sportsbet

Harry Coffey gets back aboard this 4YO mare for the first time since her win at Hamilton on Heavy going back in January. She was beaten by a neck in a close finish last time out at Kyneton a fortnight ago. She maps to be one of the on-pace gallopers and looks to have enough ability to account for this BM58 if she can slot in nicely from barrier 10 with a bit in hand.

Best ValueRace 5 – Midnight Magic (#9) $10 with Sportsbet

This former Kiwi galloper will line up for his third start in Australia as she looks to improve on her disappointing run at Bendigo three weeks ago. Since her win at Avondale back in January, she has found herself too far back in the run in every appearance. You would think Jamie Mott should be able to get her in an on-pace role here, in which case she should provide a good sight at odds in the opening leg of the quaddie.
