Some good fields have come together for a nine-race card at Kilcoy in Queensland’s Somerset Region this Friday. The track is rated a Good 4 with the rail in the true position, which should make for a wonderful afternoon’s racing. The first race will be at 11:58am AEST.

The best of the afternoon comes up in the third with Tony and Maddysen Sears’ Sonic Arrow. The three-year-old filly has placed in four of her five career starts in some much tougher maiden races, so she appears well in here. With Alex Patis’ 1.5kg claim, she drops to just 55kg and will have every chance to get the monkey off her back. From barrier eight, they’ll be able to cruise forward, find the fence and be strong late over the 1060m trip.

Race 5 – Drifter @ $3.40 Sportsbet
Sam Strezzieri’s five-year-old gelding resumes here in a 1060m Benchmark 62. He strung three wins together last campaign, which included two victories at this course and culminated in a tough win at the Sunshine Coast. He is a winner first up in the past, while Nathan Fazackerley is riding very well at the moment. The top weight is compensated by Fazackerley’s 1.5kg claim, and he should be guided well from barrier six.

Race 7 – Best Guess @ $14 Sportsbet
Bevan Johnson takes just the one runner to Kilcoy on Friday, but he looks a great chance of getting the spoils. Best Guess performed very well earlier in his career, winning metropolitan races in Sydney before being sent to the bush for a country cups tilt. The seven-year-old gelding is now past his best, but he only needs to replicate some of his earlier form to dominate this Class 5 event. He is a two-time winner when second up and will appreciate Rebecca Wilson’s 3kg claim, getting him down to just 56kg. He’ll land in a great spot from barrier five and should hit the line strongly.
