2020 Kevin Heffernan Stakes betting preview
The Group 3 Kevin Heffernan Stakes at weight-for-age conditions is the third race on a blockbuster day at Sandown on Saturday afternoon. A field of seven is set to go around after the early scratching of Travimyfriend, and with all runners coming through efforts in the Flemington carnival, it’s a high-standard Group 3 if the acceptors are anything to go by.
It has been a thoroughly impressive return for Wild Vixen. She was afforded no luck upon resumption at Geelong when settling four deep with no cover but still proved too classy for a big field. She looked to be unlucky last start on Melbourne Cup Day when hitting the front too early and then getting swamped in the shadows of the winning post. She meets a similar field here and is drawn to get an economical run in transit, so she should prove hard to beat.
It was a tough all-the-way win in the Linlithgow Stakes on Derby Day for Kemalpasa, who comes up favourite here in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes. He only goes up half a kilogram off that effort and rates highly with Craig Williams retaining the ride. Tactics could prove crucial in such a small field, but it’s easy to see why he is a short-priced favourite.
Neighbourhood produced a massive first-up run at big odds in the Linlithgow to go down by just over two-and-a-half lengths to Kemalpasa. She meets the gelding better in the weights again and is drawn to do nothing in the run from barrier one. If afforded a bit of luck at the top of the straight, she looks to be one of the better each-way plays in the race.
