The featured event on the nine race card at Flemington on Saturday is the $140,000 Listed Kensington Stakes (1000m). A field of 10 has assembled for the sprint with Western Australian star Fabergino opening up as a $3.80 favourite in a bid to string together consecutive wins over the 1000m. Traditionally the Kensington Stakes has not been a race for favourite backers, but last year Bold Star saluted as the bookies’ elect.

The 2021 Kensington Stakes is set jump at 5:35pm AEDT.

Best Bet: #1 Fabergino @ $3.80

It is hard to ignore the flawless record that Fabergino posessess over the Flemington 1000m, winning twice from two starts. The Tiarnna Robertson-trained sprinter is arguably the class in the field having competed in the VRC Sprint Classic and Moir Stakes this campaign and finished runner up in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint. The mare was a convincing winner at Flemington on December 12 which saw her keep Prezado, a rival she meets on Saturday, at bay by just under a length. Off the five week freshen up she will be primed for this race and should be a touch too strong.

Next Best: #6 Pandemic @ $4.20

If anyone is going to outsprint the favourite, you would think it would come from the Godolphin stable and Pandemic, who was an impressive winner in the Listed Christmas Stakes on Boxing Day at Caulfield. The gelding will be giving Fabergino a bit of a start considering he prefers to find some cover midfield before unleashing a slick turn of foot. Having won two in a row, his confidence will be high, but with this being his first attempt down the Flemington straight, we opted to go with his more experienced opponent in Fabergino. But definitely don’t underestimate Pandemic.

Best Value: #8 Sword Of Mercy @ $7.00

Having been in career best form over the last year, Sword Of Mercy meets her toughest task to date for the Ellerton and Zahra stable. She has strung together consecutive victories in her two runs this campaign, including a win over the Flemington 1000m when first up on December 19. Damien Lane has a fantastic affiliation aboard the mare having won twice from three rides and will look to prove a winning combination in the Listed Kensington Stakes.
