Kensington Horse Betting Preview – Saturday, 2nd January 2021

Nine races will be running warm at Kensington on Saturday . the track is rated a heavy 8 with the rail in the true position for the entire course .

Race one will jump at 1:15pm with the final race on the day to go around at 6:15pm.

Best BetRace 6 – Smart Image (#4) $2.30 with Sportsbet

Smart Image was an impressive winner at Canterbury Park three weeks ago and he lines up here again in a Benchmark 78 over 1300m. A winner of three from four, the son of Smart Missile has two wet track victories to his name which will see him in good stead here on a heavy 8. Up slightly in class but dropping 2kg in weight, the Peter & Paul Snowden trained colt will be guided by Tommy Berry from barrier 7. There looks a bit of speed in the race which will set it up perfectly for him to finish right over the top of them make it 4 from 5 career wins.

Next BestRace 8 – Snowfire (#3) $3.40 with Sportsbet

Tommy Berry has a nice book of rides on Saturday. Outside of our best bet Smart Image, our next best looks a good thing as well with the Hawkes trained Snowfire set to go around in a Benchmark 78. The four-year-old Star Witness gelding has won four starts from his nine career races and comes off a solid enough 4th at Randwick last start. Back onto a soft track where he’s won three from 5, he’ll look to lead over the 1550m journey. If he can find the front and dictate terms comfortably, he will take some serious catching.

Best ValueRace 1 – Wilsons Prom (#6) $15.00 with Sportsbet

We were surprised to see the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace two-year-old colt Wilsons Prom come up $15 in the opening race on the card. Having had the two career starts and placing in both, he comes off a second at Canberra over 1000m where he was first past the post but lost on protest. Rocket Tiger was relegated to first on that occasion and has since come out and won last Saturday in Sydney, defeating a talented one in Vandoula Lass. From barrier 7, he’ll be taken to the front by Sam Clipperton and should be rock hard fit here third up. By New Zealand sire Xtravagant, we can assume that he’ll handle the heavy track given he has won a trial on a heavy surface by a length back in October. At $15 he is well and truly worth an each way play in the opener.
