Kembla Grange betting preview – March 12, 2021

Eight races will be run and won on Friday at the Kembla Grange Classic meeting in Illawarra. The rail is in the true position and the track is rated a Good 4, but a rainy forecast points to a potential downgrade. Race 1 is set to jump at 1:15pm local time.

Best Bet: Subedar

James Cummings has three runners engaged in the Lillye Memorial Handicap, but grey gelding Subedar looks a clear standout, as his odds suggest. The last-start Flemington winner held off the challengers in nice style four weeks ago and now gets back to a track where he won on debut. Staying at the 1200m with a month between races is ideal, and he should get a lovely run under Tommy Berry from barrier two. He ticks all of the boxes.

Best BetRace 4 – Subedar (#3) $1.65 with Sportsbet

Next Best: Favreau

Three-year-old Tavistock gelding Favreau is headed towards the ATC Derby, so you would hope he is competitive here if you had shares in him. He only just got the job done last start at Canberra as a short favourite, but we are hopeful that run has given him the confidence he needed. He has only one win from seven outings but has been beaten in some decent races, including near misses in the Gloaming Stakes and the Spring Champion Stakes. Tommy Berry will do the steering again from barrier nine, and he should be hard to beat.

Best Value: Masked Maree

Tom Marquand and Anthony Freedman combine with three-year-old filly Masked Maree, who lines up in just her second career start. On debut she was beaten just shy of four lengths by Attribution and finished only two-and-a-half lengths off Drummin, who has since run second in a midweek metropolitan race in Sydney. In that 1100m race she settled last and got home nicely into sixth around the Gosford track, which did not really look to suit her. Up to 1300m and on to a big track like Kembla Grange, she can finish off very strongly under a strong horseman in Marquand. She is a massive price, so a 1×4 style of bet might be the way to go.

Best ValueRace 2 – Masked Maree (#9) $51 with Sportsbet
