HorseBetting brings you the best bets and quaddie numbers from Kalgoorlie on Saturday as well as a top pick in the Listed Kalgoorlie Cup. Nine races will be run and won on what will be a Good 4 track with the rail in the true position. The first race of the day is set to jump at 12:13pm AWST.
Kalgoorlie Cup: Sugar Cain
William Pike will ride Sugar Cain in the Kalgoorlie Cup for Grant & Alana Williams, and if the seven-year-old mare can replicate her last-start effort, she will take some beating here. The daughter of Americain has won seven races in her 42-start career, including two of her past three. Drawn to do no work from barrier four, Pike will have this mare cruising behind the speed. She does drop back from 2100m to 2000m and will race at Kalgoorlie for the first time, but the seven-day backup could do her a world of good and see her jump out of the ground. She is almost an each-way price too.
Race 8 – Sugar Cain (#9)Kalgoorlie Best Bet: Staralign
Peter Fernie and William Pike combine in the fifth with Staralign, who is a genuine Kalgoorlie specialist. The six-year-old has had 12 starts here for six wins and five minor placings and comes off a win here on September 19. Drawn in barrier six, Pike will settle midfield on the son of Universal Ruler and look to replicate his ride from last time and arrive just in time. Staralign carried 59.5kg last time out, so the extra 0.5kg should not be too much of a concern as he does strike easier company. Pike rode six winners last Saturday and three here on Thursday, so we expect him to ride at least a double again on Saturday.
Race 5 – Staralign (#2)Next Best at Kalgoorlie: Beret
Adam Durrant’s five-year-old mare is a well-named daughter of Helmet who has a good strike rate at the races. Beret has won three of her 19 starts and placed on 10 other occasions but was very unlucky not to have added another win to her name in her most recent start at Belmont when beaten by 0.06 of a length over 1200m. Beret stays at 1200m second-up, which is a big plus, while Clint Johnston-Porter also stays on board in a bid to go one better than last time. She will get back in the run from barrier nine, but we expect her to be too good in this.
