Justice tips the Scales in the Railway Stakes

PROMISING four-year-old Scales Of Justice has taken out the Group 1 Railway Stakes at Ascot after a sensational front-running ride from Douglas Whyte to salute at $9 odds at Sportsbet.com.au.

The Not A Single Doubt gelding continued his perfect place record in just his second group race, holding out last year’s winner Good Project ($3.20 to place at WilliamHill.com.au) and race favourite Perfect Reflection ($1.90 to place at Crownbet.com.au).

Jockey Douglas Whyte said he knew he had enough in the hand approaching the latter stages of the race.

“I was confident at the 1400 metres,” Whyte said.

“Lindsey gave me confidence and said if nothing else wants to lead, you lead.

“When I turned for home and pressed the button he had a whole lot of engine there.”

A multiple Hong Kong Jockey of the Year, Whyte got a late call up to take the ride on the Lindsey Smith-trained gelding after Paul Harvey was suspended last Saturday when Scales Of Justice won the Group 3 R J Peters Stakes.

Smith said Whyte’s experience helped Scales Of Justice tip out his opposition in the feature of the day.

“We got Douglas down here and he showed why he’s been champion jockey in Hong Kong so many times.”
