Undefeated in two starts as a juvenile, high quality colt Jukebox is set for his racetrack return at Caulfield.

The Ciaron Maher-trained three-year-old contests Saturday’s Group Three Vain Stakes for which he is the $3.20 favourite.

Jukebox had his two-year-old season curtailed by a foot issue and was ruled out of the Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield in February.

He won on debut at Geelong and backed it up at Caulfield to be high up in betting for the Blue Diamond.

He had also been one of four potential Blue Diamond rides for Craig Williams who has the ride on Saturday.

“He had a good long break and has more or less grown a new foot,” Maher said.

On Saturday, Jukebox races in standard race tips, replacing the glue-on shoes he wore in his first campaign.

Maher says Jukebox has had a good preparation.

“He trialled up here in nice time the other day and had a nice, sharp gallop on Tuesday and seems pretty right to go,” Maher said.

“His action is good and he’s a bright and happy horse.”

Jukebox may head to the Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on September 16 and while the colt is entered for the Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 23, Maher fears Jukebox may be too sharp for that journey.

“He’s a Snitzel out of a Rory’s Jester mare and he seems a sharp and natural sprinter,” Maher said.

Maher will also be represented on Saturday by Schism who will be looking to extend her winning streak to four in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes.

“We’re looking for some black-type,” Maher said.

“She’s had a freshen but has had a good preparation and can run well here.”
