Jockey Jamie Kah under Iinvestigation amid social media ‘white powder’ controversy
Star Melbourne jockey Jamie Kah has become the subject of a recent investigation by Racing Victoria (RV) stewards due to images circulating on social media that appear to show her with a plate of an unidentified white powder.
The images have come under scrutiny just days after her return to the racing scene following a severe accident.
In one of the pictures, Kah can be seen smiling at the camera, her white-painted nails clearly in view.
In another, a hand with white nails is seen seemingly dividing lines of the white powder on a plate.
It remains unclear when these images were taken, what the substance is, or whether it was consumed.
RV Chief Steward, Robert Cram, confirmed that they are aware of the photos and have launched an investigation.
However, he did not comment on whether stewards had spoken to Kah about the images.
In a statement, RV assured that they would be making enquiries of Jamie Kah to gather all the facts before considering any possible breaches of Racing Rules.
This controversy has arisen shortly after Kah made a triumphant return to the racing scene.
The 27-year-old jockey was severely injured during a high-speed fall at Flemington’s Super Saturday in March.
The fall resulted in a serious brain injury that left her hospitalized for three weeks.
Kah described the incident as leaving her with memory loss and necessitating a recovery period marked by intense physical and mental health focus.
Despite the significant setback, Kah managed to return to the track on a restricted trackwork license and expressed optimism about her recovery.
She stated that she feels “100 per cent” and is looking forward to riding again.
She needs to complete a balance neurological test next month to be eligible to ride in races again.
Jamie Kah has been a celebrated figure in the racing industry, becoming the first female jockey to win the Melbourne jockeys’ premiership in the 2020-21 season and being the first jockey to ride 100 Melbourne winners in a season.
Despite her injury hiatus, she continues to lead the Melbourne Jockeys Premiership table this season.
However, this isn’t the first time that Kah has come under the spotlight for off-track incidents.
She was suspended in August 2021 for breaching COVID-19 protocols at a house party at a Mornington Airbnb.
