Is the worst ride of 2019 already settled?

The punters are ready to declare the ride on Borazon as the worst of 2019.

THE search for the worst ride of 2019 might be over after just three weeks.

Chris Waller-trained Borazon was meant to be one of the better bets of the day at Doomben on Wednesday, with the thee-year-old carrying the superior form into the maiden handicap over 1640 metres.

After recording two second placings in his last three races the punters came hard for the Waller gelding, crunching him in to $2 with online bookmaker BetEasy.

After getting away slowly jockey Robbie Fradd hunted the gelding up to sit just behind the early pacemaker Mystic Brook, who would eventually go on to claim the win.

Turning the corner Borazon looked to be travelling well behind the leader but still requiring some luck to extract and get into the race. The jockey was indecisive though, unsure of whether he should guide the gelding up the rail or attempt to come off the leader’s heels towards the middle of the track.

What followed was an agonising watch for Borazon backers.

Punters watched in horror as Fradd attempted a rails ride that was never there before meekly riding him out to finish a disappointing third.

The winner Mystic Brook fought off a late challenge from outsider Lotus Leaf to return $4.90 at online bookmaker Sportsbet.

We dare say Fradd will be using the remainder of the Doomben card to seek some redemption in the saddle.
