Friday racing tips for Ipswich

Seven races will be run and won at Ipswich on Friday afternoon to kick off a mega weekend in Queensland racing. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail is in the true position for the entire circumference of the course, and the first race will jump at 1:22pm local time.

Best BetRace 4 – Apollo Prince (#6) $4 at Sportsbet

James Orman could ride a broomstick to victory at the moment. He’s won 12 of his last 50 rides (24%), so we are keen to follow him here. Despite saluting on Penasquito at Ballina last start, he has hopped off to ride Kelly Schweida’s newcomer Apollo Prince. Since arriving in Queensland, the former Kris Lees-trained gelding has had two trials, including a win and a soft trial a month ago under Orman. He won comfortably on debut at $1.45 at Newcastle and has since placed twice as favourite. He tends to race best when first up, and he should be ready to fire on Friday. He’ll jump from barrier three, which will be perfect for him to settle behind the speed and pounce late. He should kick off his Queensland career in winning fashion.

Next BestRace 1 – Day To Favour (#3) $4 at Sportsbet

Jim Byrne had a Saturday to remember last weekend, and we hope that the good form continues here when he partners John Wilson’s maiden galloper Day To Favour. Having had seven career starts, the daughter of Domesday has placed in her last three runs since joining the Wilson stable. The 2150m journey around Ipswich is likely to suit her as she looks to get the monkey off her back. Jim Byrne takes over from apprentice Kyle Wilson-Taylor, which will be advantageous despite having to carry an extra 5kg than she did in her narrow defeat last start. She may not be the type who loves to win, but she’ll try hard and should be in the finish.

Best ValueRace 3 – Miss Rhapsody (#5) $6 at Sportsbet

Tony and Maddysen Sears saddle up three-year-old filly Miss Rhapsody in her racing return. Her first preparation as a two-year-old was successful, delivering a maiden win at Kilcoy in start two after being outclassed in a quality 2YO Fillies race leading up to the Magic Millions. She has trialled well enough and proved too speedy here over the 800m journey under Michael Cahill. She is likely to roll forward from barrier seven in a spectacle that will likely be reminiscent of the charge of the light brigade. She can win this pretty weak Class 1.
