Ipswich horse betting preview

Eight races head to Ipswich Turf Club on Wednesday for midweek metropolitan racing. The track is rated a Soft 5, but with storms expected, we could see a downgrade. Alternatively, if the storm misses, we are likely to be racing on a perfect Good 4 track. The rail moves out +7m for the entire circumference of the course. Race 1 jumps at 1:18pm local time.

Best BetRace 1 – Melo Melo (#3) $4.20 with Sportsbet

With only a six-horse field to open the card, we are confident that Melo Melo can make it back-to-back wins here. He was a good winner three weeks ago over 1350m at Doomben, and the way he was strong late suggests the 340m rise in trip should suit. Ben Thompson sticks aboard and should be handy from gate four. This horse had the better of Bold Executive in his two previous starts, while Soul Dancer was lacklustre last time out, which makes it hard for us to see them challenging Melo Melo. Punters should be off to a flyer here.

Next BestRace 2 – Magnate (#7) $3.10 with Sportsbet

Stuart Kendrick saddles up Magnate in a maiden that has attracted a field of noted non-winners. We’ve been supporters of Come In Spinner and Elgin in recent times, but they’re both scared of the post, unlike (touch wood) Magnate. He’s been beaten as a well-backed commodity twice already this campaign and was luckless when diving through on the rails last start. Ipswich tends to favour leaders, which could play against him here, but from barrier three, we would like to see Ryan Maloney settle a touch closer than usual to give him every chance. With even luck, he wins this.

Next Best AgainRace 8 – Indian Dreamer (#3) $3.60 with Sportsbet

After our two best bets came up in the opening races, we are going to have to wait until the last of the day for our value pick, but we think it should be worth it. Toby and Trent Edmonds saddle up Indian Dreamer, who placed at the Sunshine Coast last time out when fresh. Second up and rising to 1350m will suit the son of Sepoy down to the ground. There is speed to burn early, which will suit Indian Dreamer and Robbie Fradd, as they are likely to get back and run on strongly. Hopefully he handles his first look around Ipswich.
