Nine races are set to face the starter at Ipswich on Monday on what will be Queensland’s second straight public holiday on a Monday. The track is rated a Good 4 at time of writing, but a few showers are forecast over the weekend, so we expect to see a downgrade by Monday. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circumference of the course. Horsebetting.com.au brings you our best bets for Monday’s Ipswich race meeting, as well as a suggested quaddie. The first of nine races is set to jump at 11:32am.
Best Bet – #6 Wolf Moon
We expected to see Wolf Moon in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas on Saturday at Eagle Farm, but connections chose not to accept, and this is why. The three-year-old has won three of his five career starts and finished third in the Listed Daybreak Lover at Eagle Farm last time out, so back to a Benchmark 68 with 59kg looks to be an easy kill. James Orman will have him find the front from barrier three, and given his tough win over the mile at the Sunshine Coast in a Saturday Metro race, he should be able to see out the 1680m at Ipswich which is a course that favours those close to the speed. All the form points to him.
Brian Costello’s four-year-old gelding Orsetto will be looking to go back-to-back in the sixth on Monday, when he lines up in a Benchmark 65 over 800m. He was able to win over this track and trip on April 12, beating Tru Blu Tango by a tenth of a length. That runner has since won a Class 3 at Rockhampton, which looks good form for this. Michael Cahill knows the horse well after winning on him last time out so we expect a similar ride from barrier four. He does rise 3kg, but is back from a Class 3 so it should compensate the weight rise. He’s right in this.
