Ipswich Horse Betting Preview – Friday, 01 January 2021
Ipswich plays host to the first races of 2021 in Queensland on Friday afternoon. Nine races will be run and won on a Soft 5 track. New Year’s Day racing will see the rail in the +10m position for the entire circumference of the course.
Race 1 will kick off at 12:54pm.
Race 9 – My boy Sam (#1)
David Vandyke and Ryan Maloney can pick up from where they left off in 2020 with a winner in the last on the program with My Boy Sam. A winner of just one from seven, the son of Falvelon has placed a further four times against some quality opposition in town. First-up a fortnight ago after a 271 day spell, he battled away to run third at this track and trip. He should be much better for the run now, has drawn to get back with cover and should be finishing too well over the top of them.

Race 2 – Trust In Aloha (#7)
Ryan Maloney looks in for a good afternoon on New Year’s Day should he be able to find the secret ingredient to win on Stu Kendrick’s Trust In Aloha. The three-year-old filly went down as an odds on favourite at the Sunshine Coast last start, but should be better and fitter second-up under Maloney. She rises 4.5kg on Friday, but being drawn the rails, she will be able to settle a touch closer than usual and gets plenty of speed around her to bring her into the race at the business end. If she doesn’t win this, she might not ever win a race; at least not with our money.

Race 6 – Electric Dragon (#6)
Over 800m, there is speed to burn in the sixth race of the day, but the horse that can be too fast is Robbie Fradd’s mount in Electric Dragon. Drawn barrier 10, Fradd will go straight to the front on the Hidden Dragon filly and make every post a winner. She only has the one win to her name from eight career starts, and that came at this track and trip, so if she repeats that effort, she will be winning this. Three starts ago she was only 2L off Azzareach who ran very well behind Bleu Zebra on Wednesday at Doomben. She looks the goods here.
