Ipswich racing preview

What Ipswich Races
Where Ipswich Turf Club – 219 Brisbane Rd, Bundamba QLD 4304
When Wednesday, October 20, 2021
First Race 1:18pm AEST

HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst had picked out his best bets and quaddie numbers for the seven-race card at Ipswich on Wednesday. The track is rated a Good 4, while the rail is out 9.5m for the entire course, so we will be looking for horses who can race on speed. The opening race of the day is set to jump at 1:18pm AEST.

Ipswich Best Bet – Dare To Share

Cherie Vick’s three-year-old colt Dare To Share has been going very well of late, winning two of his past three, including a three length romp at this track and distance two starts back. The son of Dream Ahead has raced since then over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast but didn’t have enough gas to see out a strong 1000m, so back to 800m and around the tight track that is Ipswich should suit him. Drawn perfectly in barrier three and set to carry 56kg after Adin Thompson’s 2kg claim, Dare To Share will once again take some serious beating.

Next Best Bet at Ipswich – Vaporizing

Tony Gollan and Ryan Maloney combine in the penultimate race with Vaporizing, who is looking to go back-to-back after a good win at the Sunshine Coast on October 8. The five-year-old son of Wandjina started as an even-money favourite on that occasion over the 1000m and took every bit of the straight to wind up and get to the front after settling last in the run, so the 0.2-length margin in the race book doesn’t really do his win justice. The gelding drops 2kg and goes from a Benchmark 62 to a Class 3, which will see him competitive once again, and although Ipswich may not suit him all that well, barrier two can see Maloney settle closer and turn the disadvantage into an advantage. He looks to be too good again.

Best Value at Ipswich – Blue Jacket

By no means are we knocking Thatfeelsbetter after a good win last start here at Ipswich, but yours truly is a proud Central Queenslander who has an opinion of Phillip Pengelly’s three-year-old Blue Jacket. The son of Sizzling has won two from six and has also placed on three occasions with runner-up performances behind Ahooshu and Isis Carmella, which is very handy form for a race like this. Blue Jacket got the confidence booster he needed last time out with a tough all-the-way win over 1300m, albeit at Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast, but he did defeat one of the better CQ three-year-olds in Fire King there, so there is plenty of merit in the win. Drawn in barrier five, Brad Pengelly will look for the front on this talented gelding and look to record consecutive wins.
