HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for Wednesday’s metropolitan meeting at Ipswich. The track is rated a Soft 5, the rail is out 5m for the entire course, and the first of seven races is set to go at 1:53pm AEST.
Ipswich Best Bet – Joy Too All
Ryan Maloney and David Vandyke combine in the third race of the day with consistent mare Joy Too All. The five-year-old daughter of All Too Hard has won three of her five career starts and placed second to the talented Palaisipan on one other occasion. Drawn wide in barrier seven, Maloney will take bad luck out of the equation by taking her to the front, controlling the race and then kicking away on the bend. This will be Joy Too All’s first look at Ipswich, which is a slight query, but she has plenty of ability to overcome that very small knock. She can win first-up against this field.
Next Best at Ipswich – Astro Boy Toy
In the following race and opening leg of the quaddie, Ryan Maloney again gets to ride a potential winner, and that is the Trent & Toby Edmonds-trained Astro Boy Toy. This five-year-old son of Deep Field has not raced since a third-placed effort at Doomben on August 22 last year, but he has trialled twice this spring in good fashion. His form prior to this ties in around Phobetor, Chauffeur and Kalik, which reads well for this Class 5, while barrier one should see him box seat in the run. There are a couple of handy horses in this field, but provided he doesn’t need the run too badly, he can win this first-up.
Ipswich Value Bet – Rations
Rations only has one owner – an A. Pippos – and we reckon they will be tooting their own trumpet for as long as they live that their runner finished second to Incentivise on the day that horse started a nine-race win streak at the Sunshine Coast. Not too many horses can say they got within 3.3 lengths of the Caulfield Cup winner, but Rations did that day and then went out and won well at Eagle Farm on the three-day backup, before finishing well down the track at Listed level in her next start behind Easifar and Tycoon Evie. The Barry Baldwin-trained mare returns to the races on Wednesday after two trials and looks well placed in a 1350m Class 1. Mark Du Plessis will do the riding from barrier six and will look to give her every chance. She may want further in time, but this looks to be a nice starting point for the daughter of Outreach.
