Labour Day racing in Queensland heads to Brisbane’s west for a seven-race program from Ipswich Turf Club. HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie selections for the program, which is scheduled to begin at 12:42pm AEST. Ideal racing conditions are expected at Ipswich, with a Good 4 surface predicted, while the rail is in the true position, giving every horse a winning chance.
Ipswich Best Bet – Armalite
Annabel Neasham and Jim Byrne combine in the third race of the afternoon with a talented two-year-old in Armalite. The colt made his debut at Eagle Farm on April 16 over 1400m, hitting the line strongly from the back behind Green Shadows and Four Mile Lane to run third, 1.7 lengths away. The son of Zoustar hasn’t had any joy with the barriers drawing the outside on debut and now drawing 10 of 12, but he has got back in both barrier trials and on debut anyway, so that looks like his racing pattern. We really liked the way that Armalite levelled out on debut and hit the line, so we are hoping that the benefit of race experience will shine through on Monday and get this two-year-old home in front.

Ipswich Next Best – Vantan Express
Vantan Express put it all together at the end of his last preparation, winning back-to-back races in nice style at the Sunshine Coast. The Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted-trained three-year-old son of Vancouver has only had five career starts, winning twice and placing third on two other occasions in some very competitive races. On the back of two good trials in April, Vantan Express can resume as a winner under Boris Thornton. He should be able to find a good spot from barrier seven and be right within striking distance at the business end.
