Eight races will be run and won at Inverell on Friday afternoon, with the featured Beef Week Cup (1400m) scheduled for 3:55pm AEST. HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents his best bet for the $45,000 feature, as well as his top tips throughout the course of the afternoon. The track is rated a Heavy 8, the rail is in the true position, and racing gets underway at 12:15pm AEST.

Beef Week Cup Best Bet – Buffet Buster

Stirling Osland and Anthony Cavallo combine in the feature with the in-form Buffet Buster. The three-year-old son of Snitzel won three straight races in March, then stepped up to open company in the Tamworth Cup Prelude and ran a very brave fourth. Drawn nicely in barrier seven on Friday, Cavallo will have Buffet Buster in the first half of the field, where he should get a nice run in transit to be well and truly within striking distance at the business end. He’s good enough to win it, and the top betting sites are giving us a tasty each-way price.

Beef Week Cup Best Bet

Race 7 – Silks #9 Buffet Buster (7)

3yo Gelding | T: Stirling Osland | J: Anthony Cavallo (55kg)

Best Bet at Inverell – Pocket Picker

Despite a 15-length trial win, Pocket Picker still started at $21 on debut in the $200,000 Inglis Challenge (1100m) at Scone on May 13. The Mark Mason-trained two-year-old travelled sweetly in the run and was not beaten very fair at all, so we expect him to benefit greatly from that and appreciate the drop back in distance to 1050m. The son of Flying Artie will go forward from barrier nine and take a fair bit of beating in the opener.

Best Bet

Race 1 – Silks #1 Pocket Picker (9)

2yo Gelding | T: Mark Mason | J: TBC (58.5kg)

$2.70 with Ladbrokes

Best Value at Inverell – Dimitri

The best horse in the form guide on Friday is one who isn’t racing at Inverell, but the form line that Dimitri brings to this maiden is elite. Five starts ago, the gelding by Sidestep ran third to Duais in a Newcastle maiden – how’s that for form? Admittedly, that race was in December 2020, but he did have over 12 months between that run and his next start, so there were obviously a few issues. The Noel Mayfield-Smith runner has had four races this time in, getting better with each run, including a last-start fourth at Port Macquarie. He can be competitive and go close to winning at start 16.

Best Value

Race 3 – Silks #5 Dimitri (8)

5yo Gelding | T: Noel Mayfield-Smith | J: Jeff Kehoe (56kg)

$8 with Neds
